I've been playing the Star Trek II Wrath of Mod mod for Civ 4 and it's a blast but of course there is no tactical combat per se in Civ 4. I agree that this game positively SCREAMS for modding capabilities. Obviously that is going to depend upon sales of the game as to whether Sid decides to implement new features. He stated that at this time there is no modding support but that he wouldn't rule it out as a possibility in the future. The accident happened about two meters from the front fence. “I ran to the pit,” Skov says, “and saw people already being pulled out by security. I will now count to three, and you will all take three steps back. Imagine that I am your friend and that you must step back so as not to hurt me. “What will happen in the next five minutes has nothing to do with music. Vedder stopped the music and addressed the audience: Pearl Jam were coming to the end of “Daughter” when Adams rushed onstage and talked to singer Eddie Vedder. Eventually, the message went up the security team’s chain of command to the Orange Stage production office and finally to Dick Adams, Pearl Jam’s tour manager, who was standing at the side of the stage. Pete Townshend Returns to Form on Reflective Single 'Can’t Outrun the Truth'Īt about 11:15 P.M., forty-five minutes into Pearl Jam’s set, Per Johansen turned to his security chief in the pit and asked her to stop the music, telling her, “I think people are dead.” Johansen claims he repeated his request twice and that another member of the pit crew said it a fourth time. ![]() I stayed five songs, and then I pushed my way out.” People wanted to get to the front, and put their hands on each other’s shoulders and squeezed through. ![]() “It was like I was standing at a crossroads. “There was too much pressure in there,” he recalls. Jannik Tai Mosholt, 22, a devoted Pearl Jam fan and a veteran of seven Roskilde festivals, was about ten rows from the front, on the right flank of the crowd. ![]() The tight squeeze and oceanic surges proved too much for some members of the audience. “Half an hour in, I knew it was life and death. “It was tight even before the music started – people were stumbling left and right,” says Tomas Miller, 19, who was also at the front of the crowd. The guy in front of me could see the problems they had and said, ‘Push the other way.’ We did that three times, but it didn’t help at all.” “I could still see their head, but they were much lower than the rest of us. Christian Mueller, 28, was in the audience near Johansen’s station, about fifteen feet from the stage. But the centrifugal sway of the packed fans was knocking people off balance and down to the hardclay pavement underneath, where arms, legs and heads were getting caught in a lethal tangle. The Roskilde Festival – one of Europe’s most popular summer concert events, held for the past twenty-nine years in the small farming community of Roskilde, twenty-five miles west of Copenhagen – had become the scene of one of the worst concert-related death tolls in rock history, just two short of the tragic stampede at the Who concert at Cincinnati’s Riverfront Coliseum in December 1979.Īccording to one eyewitness who was onstage, it was hard for anyone, including the band, to see what was happening in the pit, other than the usual exuberant tumult. A ninth man died in a hospital five days later. Eight young men, ages seventeen to twenty-six, suffocated to death in the mosh pit as Pearl Jam performed. Within an hour, the area directly in front of Johansen had turned into a rock & roll hell. “We’d had that crowd before,” he notes, “and there was no problem.” But not dangerous.” Johansen, 37, had done security at Roskilde for the past ten years. The size of the audience, Johansen says now, was “nothing special. A volunteer security guard at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival, Johansen took up his assigned position in the narrow pit between the crowd barrier and the Orange Stage, the largest of the festival’s seven performance areas, and looked out at the approximately 50,000 fans waiting to see Pearl Jam. While incising techniques differ, such as drypoint, etching, and aquatint, the process of printing an intaglio remains the same. The paper is forced into the grooves and pulls out the ink, printing an impression. A damp sheet of paper is laid on the plate, and the two are run through a press. The plate surface is covered with an ink layer and then wiped clean, leaving ink only in the incisions. IntaglioĪn intaglio is printed from a copperplate with an incised design. A single matrix can be printed repeatedly to generate multiple impressions. The printed sheet is called an impression. This matrix, which can be a copperplate, stone, or woodblock, is then inked and printed, transferring the design in mirror image onto a sheet of paper. To make a print, an artist creates a design on a flat surface called a matrix. We also compiled a list of printmaking terms and definitions, below. Old Elk doesn’t mess with that formula and for that this sip really resonated well with my previous experiences with MGP whiskey. MGP bourbons have always had fantastic mouthfeels due to them typically being non-chill filtered. The finish may be the best part of this dram. ![]() Seasoned oak, espresso grounds and wet tobacco give it a rich, flavorful note to linger on while rye notes of cinnamon and cloves add a nice zing for complexity. But the finish leaves a darker more robust impact that seems different from the light and sweet notes I have experienced up to this point. And for around four years old, tobacco leaf and dark chocolate shavings really help round off the character of this whiskey.įinish: For a bourbon that lacked fruit notes so far, I’m surprised to find notes of prunes and figs. The rye grain is pushed to the back but contributes with notes of licorice and fennel seed. It’s bourbon character is shown with notes of oak spice, peppercorns and caramel chips but the malt whiskey side softens things up with flavors of Malt-O-Meal hot cereal, table syrup and cinnamon stick. Palate: The malted barley really makes for a unique drinking experience by wavering back and forth between bourbon notes and malt whiskey notes. The nose leans a bit on the softer side than most bourbon, but I’m assuming that is something the extremely high malted barley content is responsible for. There’s notes of cinnamon, oak spice and caramel latte. The nose comes off like a bowl of Frosted Flakes cereal was just poured. I sampled this neat and with a Glencairn. So now that we have all the facts, what does this bourbon taste like? Does Old Elk have a solid base for future single barrels? Let’s find out. ![]() It isn’t aged much over 4 years, but typically whiskies with a higher malt content tend to soften the harshness that young distillate has. The bottle before us today is a single barrel of the high malt mashbill I previously mentioned and is bottled at barrel proof (a rather low 107.4 proof). Most Old Elk bourbon is bottled at 88 proof and is a blend of three different bourbons. It must have been like moving into a new house, but being able to take a couple rooms you really liked from your old house with you. Metze convinced him to expand the lineup to contain a fourth whiskey as well the 95/5 rye whiskey that MGP is famous for. Richardson was so pleased, in fact, that he lured Metze away from MGP and brought him on as the master distiller of Old Elk. |
